Herbert P. Hess

Herb Hess is the former CEO and President of North American Management. Since his retirement from this role, Herb continues to work closely with valued clients in both a relationship and portfolio management capacity. Herb sits on the firm’s Investment Committee.
Herb brings extensive experience to North American Management having served as CEO and President of State Street Research & Management. Herb’s philanthropic activities include serving as Trustee and Treasurer of Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary and as director and member of the executive committee of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association. Herb served as Director and Member of the Executive Committee of The ServiceMaster Company.
Herb began his career with Procter & Gamble and subsequently spent more than two decades with State Street Research & Management in progressively senior roles, leaving the firm several years after its acquisition by MetLife. Herb joined his colleague Skip Berents in Skips’s investment management firm, creating Berents & Hess, which later merged with North American Management. Herb has a BME in Mechanical Engineering from Cornell University and an MBA from Boston University.
